National Volunteer Week occurs during the third week in April – it’s all about celebrating the power of volunteers to tackle challenges in our communities. From supporting Cincinnati’s frontline workers during this pandemic to advocating for all those affected by kidney disease at the National Kidney Foundation’s annual kidney walk, giving back is important to all of us here at Cincinnati Home Dialysis.

Volunteering is a great way to support our neighbors and community members, especially during the pandemic. There are lots of ways to get involved in the Greater Cincinnati area, including physically-distant and virtual opportunities. Here are a few ideas to inspire you for National Volunteer Week.

Local parks

Our parks are always in need of volunteers! From one-day projects to longer term volunteering, you can sign up to help with activities like clearing invasive plants, harvesting native seeds, adopting a trail, and more. This is a great way to connect with fellow nature lovers and keep our outdoor spaces healthy for years to come. Find an opportunity at local parks in Hamilton County, Butler County, and Cincinnati.

Animal rescue and adoption

Animal shelters and rescue organizations in our community are always in need of volunteers. During the pandemic, physically-distant or virtual option include fundraising, helping to plan online events, assisting with social media and website maintenance, or fostering an animal before they enter the shelter. Ohio Alleycat Rescue, Save the Animals Foundation, and Animal Adoption Foundation are just a few of the animal organizations who need volunteers.
